CAMPBELL SAYS UNEMPLOYMENT FIGURES PROVE THE STIMULUS PLAN IS NOT WORKING

Released October 1, 2009

CHARLESTON, SC - Entrepreneur, Small Businessman, Community Volunteer, and Republican Candidate for Congress in South Carolina's First Congressional District, Carroll Campbell said today's unemployment figures prove the claims made when the stimulus plan was passed were not true.

"The politicians in Washington claimed unemployment would drop when they passed the massive, taxpayer-funded stimulus plan. Today's unemployment figures prove that all we as Americans are left with is a giant debt as a result of Washington's misplaced priorities," Campbell said.

Unemployment rose again in the latest figures released today, from 9.7 to 9.8%. At the time the stimulus plan was passed, President Obama and other politicians claimed that unemployment would not rise above 8 percent. They were wrong. Since President Barack Obama was sworn into office the unemployment rate has risen from 7.6 % to 9.8% and the United States economy has lost 3.6 million net jobs.

"I have spoken at Tea Party, Chamber of Commerce and other meetings all over the Congressional District during the last several months where I pointed out the folly of the wasteful stimulus plan," said Campbell.

"Today's figures show that instead of empowering bureaucrats in Washington to spend taxpayer's money, we should enact policies that empower individuals and provide tax cuts so the money can be spent efficiently in our communities. We don't need more Wall Street bailouts and wasteful Washington spending, we need to empower and support our small businesses to improve the economy," Campbell added.
